Minneapolis rapper Prof is the second artist that have the honor to feature with an exclusive interview in 2018. The experienced MC chatted with us about his upcoming album “Pookie Baby”, the current state on hip hop and many other interesting things. Check out the full interview below:

BT:  First of all, we would like to thank you for doing this with us. You will release a brand new album this week. Are you happy from the final output of your project?

P: Yes.

BT: What should your fans expect from “Pookie Baby”?

P: They should expect an extremely well put together record. They should expect to be able to fall in love with a least a few songs on this record, regardless of their personal style. In Pookie Baby, I made sure to cover as large a range as I could in terms of styles. Bangers, slow jams, low, high, blues, rap, everything. And it all ties together with Pookie Baby. And Pookie Baby loves you.

BT: What are your plans for the rest of 2018?

P: Total world domination. And some fly fishing. But also in the mean time tour as much as humanly possible. As an underground rapper with no big radio play or press coverage, I need to get out on the road and do what I do best. Kill shows and shake hands. Grass roots shit.

BT: How did you get the name “Prof”?

P: I actually dont like that name hahaha… I got it as a basketball nickname cuz i was dirty back in the day. I can still school a mother fucker if need be, though… It was short for prophecy, but no one called me prophecy… soon enough everyone was calling me prof outside of basketball. In the meantime, I was coming up in Minneapolis rappin. It just stuck.

BT: How did you start rapping? Any people in particular that helped you out during your first steps? What were your music influences while growing up?

P: I started rapping because everyone, literally everyone i knew growing up was rapping and freestyling at house parties and outside of clubs. Everyone was battling, so it help us kids fight less. It was some for real 8 mile shit. Thats Southside Minneapolis for you. The 1st rap record I heard that I just HAD to memorize was Goodie Mob – Soul food. My brothers and sisters were older than me, so they put me on music that no young child had business listening to. And I loved it.

BT: Are there any artists that you would like to work with, but you didn’t manage to do it until now?

P: There are a million artists I would like to work… Jay Z, Eminem, TI, Ray Charles, Etta James, Young Thug, those are just a quick few off the top of my head.

BT: How did you end up being signed with “Rhymesayers”?

P: I got really really popular. Siddiq called me up. We had a few meetings, and found out even with very different styles up until this point, we wanted the same things. BOOM. I signed.

BT: How do you feel about hip hop nowadays, both underground and mainstream? Are there any artists that stand out in the current generation?

P: Hip hop is doing just fine. A lot of people are saying its dead, but thats bullshit. They Just need to look harder. As far as conscious shit, you got Kendrick and Jcole at the top, then you got Young Thug changing shit up, and all types of rappers filling out lanes. And there is ME! There is shit out there for everyone, no doubt.

BT: Have you ever visited Greece? If no, would you like to?

P: Holy fucking shit, would I like to visit Greece?!?!?! Fuck no.

BT: How do you spend your free time?

P: Just playing on the last answer. Visiting Greece would be a fucking dream come true. Hopefully one day I can do a show there and then spend my free time around some blue and white beauty!!! Its on the bucket list for sure. The world envies Greece.

BT: We would like to thank you for this interview. Any last words for your fans in Greece?

P: I love you. I want to meet you one day. Until then, Listen to “Pookie Baby” and tell your friends about me so eventually I can do a show there! PEACE PEACE PEACE PEACE.
