atmosphereAtmosphere is a legendary American hip hop duo from Minneapolis, Minnesota, consisting of rapper Slug (Sean Daley) and producer Ant (Anthony Davis). Beat-Town had the chance to chat with Slug during a busy period for the veteran MC who released couple weeks ago two brand new tracks entitled “This Lonely Rose” & “My Best Half”. You can check out the whole interview in its original English version in the following post.

Beat-Town: First of all, we want to say that it’s an honor for our website to have you featured here for an interview. Where are you currently at?

Slug: I’m in Minneapolis right now. My home. Spending time with family and friends. Ignoring work responsibilities.

BT: Couple days ago, you released “This Lonely Rose”. Is this a single of an upcoming project or just a new track?

S: Just a track that we made with a few of our friends. We made it for fun. We released it for fun. I’m not yet ready to commit to a full length project. Maybe next week I will commit to a full length project. Maybe not. I enjoy that i’m still allowed to make my own rules.

BT: How did the collaboration with Aesop Rock and Blueprint happen?

S: We’ve been friends for almost 20 years. So once in a while we send each other emails with ideas. We’ve made more material than we’ve released. Mostly Ι think, because we all enjoy making music, and making music together.

BT: What are your plans for 2016 in general?

S: Donuts and weight lifting. And I’m trying to get that #1 dad coffee cup that I keep seeing on television sitcoms.

BT: After so many years in the industry, what pushes you in order to continue with new releases?

S: Mostly for my own enjoyment. There’s really not much I would rather be spending my time on. I love my family and I love making and performing music. Those are my interests. I’d take a guess and say that even after there is no longer an audience that cares about what we do, Anthony and myself will still hang out together and make music in his basement. Do they have basements there in greece?

BT: Yeah, there are homes with enough basements here (laughter). Have you ever thought about resigning from the game? Any rough period of times regarding music, recording etc.?

S: Nope. I won’t resign. You guys will have to fire me and have security escort me out of the building.

BT: How do you feel about the Hip-Hop game in general? Mainstream and underground.

S: I love all of it. We need all of the branches of this tree in order for this tree to remain strong for all of the advocates and future advocates of this culture. I find it frustrating when people try to discredit certain types of hip hop based on their own identities or tastes.

BT: Slug, do you have any plans regarding your solo future, career?

S: Not sure what this question means (laughter). I have no plans of separating from my wife, or my kids, or Anthony, or Rhymesayers, if that’s what you mean. Other than that, I’ve always felt like a solo rapper. I collaborate with other rappers sometimes and sometimes I guest on another producer’s beat, but I have no real desire to build a relationship with any other producers besides Anthony.

BT: How did you start rapping? Any people in particular that helped you out during your first steps?

S: I started like many started. I started as a fan and advocate. who eventually crossed the line into making music. I was helped and supported by family and friends. I found guidance in reading or watching interviews with my favorite artists. My story is like a million other stories. I’m just another kid who grew up loving this culture.

BT: We really want to thank you for doing this interview with us and we hope we will see you someday in Greece for a live event. Any final words for your Greek audience?

S: Grow your own vegetables. Thanks for the support.
